Our mission
is to provide consistently high quality oil spill removal
and emergency response services to our clients in a timely
and cost-effective manner. A high quality service includes
promoting environmental improvement while minimizing risks
to persons, equipment, and property.
Our Company
As
a result of the Exxon Valdez incident in March 1989, Congress
enacted stringent oil pollution regulations for both vessels
and marine transportation facilities entitled the Oil Pollution
Act of 1990 (“OPA 90”). National Response Corporation
(“NRC”) was created to provide the resources needed
to satisfy the requirements of this legislation.
Under regulations
promulgated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG), all vessels
and marine transportation facilities are required, while operating
within United States waters, to have an approved oil spill
response plan. Included in each plan are the specific actions,
duties and resources a responsible party would engage in the
event of a mishap.
NRC and our affiliate,
International Response Corporation (IRC) are nationally and
internationally recognized Oil Spill Removal Organizations
(OSROs). Since its inception in 1992, NRC has responded to
nearly every major oil spill in the U.S and many other emergencies
such as TWA Flight 800 and the terrorist attack on the World
Trade Center.

by in-house expertise, a vast amount of specialized response
resources and a highly skilled Independent Contractor Network
(ICN). Presently, the ICN is comprised of 168 emergency response
& spill clean-up companies with over 175 locations throughout
our Area of Service. These contractors have been selected
by NRC after a review of their resources, capabilities and
experience. NRC places our own equipment, including shallow
water portable barges, boom, high capacity skimming systems,
inland work boats, vacuum transfer units and mobile communication
centers, at the ICN locations. NRC resources also include
a Marine Resource Network which consists of seventeen dedicated
oil spill response vessels, which are strategically positioned
throughout our Area of Service to meet the planning requirements
of OPA ‘90. Through our parent company, SEACOR SMIT,
Inc., NRC has access to a vessel fleet of more than 328 offshore
vessels and supply boats worldwide. The Marine Resource Network
also provides NRC with pre-contracted access to hundreds of
tugs and oil barges from our tug and barge clients.
